Watch Out For Your "Supporters?"

The thing that often keeps so many people from taking risks and living a life past the ordinary is the lack of support from those closest to them.

Husbands and wives are notorious for keeping their loved ones small. A husband could fear losing his wife if she accepts a bigger job or decides she wants to travel more by herself.

A wife could fear losing her husband to his job or to the spotlight if he continues to advance and evolve. Parents can fear that their children will move away from them and not be a focal point of their lives anymore.

Jealousy is a complex emotion that encompasses feelings ranging from suspicion to rage to fear to humiliation. It is most typically aroused when a person perceives a threat to a valued relationship from a third party. The threat may be real or imagined. And that third party doesn’t always have to be a real person. It could be more attention, more prestige, or even moving to another town.

Jealousy and the fear of a change in a current relationship are big reasons people’s dreams die, and they remain ordinary. They don’t want to disappoint the people they love.
